Canon Pixma Pro 1 printer errors
Sometime ago my Canon Pixma Pro 1 printer refused to print. I googled the obscure error message but the only result I could find kept directing me to the Canon Service Centre. However I did find a post suggesting that the problem was that the ink waste tank was full. However, a Pixma Pro 1 does not have an ink waste tank. So I started investigating the internals of the printer and discovered that it does have a small foam pad that seems to act as a storage for waste ink. Cleaning this small item solved my problem and cost me nothing except dirty fingers.
If you have this trouble the solution is quite simple: turn the power off, slide the print head all the way to the right hand side, using a torch peer in and you will see towards the left hand end, several small foam pads. Preferably wearing gloves remove the ones that look to be saturated in black ink. Wash them carefully under a tap, allow to dry and then replace. Before replacing it may also be worthwhile cleaning the area where the foam pad sits as it will be wet with ink.
